The African Leadership Institute is a non-profit organisation with the ambition to equip and develop leaders to transform Africa. The Institute was founded in 2005 by Dawie Fourie and by February 2012 have trained more than 750 leaders.
We present leadership development schools to emerging and established leaders from the business sector, church, educational system and government. The schools consist of 3 full weeks of training and 4 weekends of training spread out over 2 calendar years. Extensive pre- and post-course reading as well as a mentorship program forms an integral part of the leadership development process. The curriculum focuses on Servanthood, Influence, the Truth and Results as four key leadership pillars throughout the training to ensure that transformational leadership development takes place.
Why is such a Leadership Institution necessary?
- Africa is in a crisis of corruption, crime, poverty, HIV/Aids, unemployment, lack of certain specialised skills and is struggling with inferiority and economic freedom.
- Africa has to solve its own challenges.
- Africa will be the hope and example for the rest of the world.
What do we aim to achieve?
- Influence the heart and mind of identified leaders to know themselves, their God-given calling and responsibilities, and then to accept ownership of their responsibilities and the challenges of Africa and beyond.
- Build strong characters who can sustain and endure the pressure of positions, failures and success.
- Develop skills such as casting vision, building strong teams, financial freedom and getting the job done.
- Build the trained leader (brick) in a system (wall) of accountability and transparency to ensure sustainability, ongoing development, duplication and growth.
- Support leaders to understand the importance of prioritised relationships and a balanced lifestyle.
How will we go to work?
- A year commitment in Phase 1 from both the nominated leaders and their employers.
- 15 full days of training during that year (5 consecutive days every four months as study leave).
- A personal commitment of 2 years from the nominated leader to complete both Phase 1 and Phase 2.
- Extensive pre-course and post-course reading material, and electronic information and examination throughout the year (with no overtime being rewarded from the employer for these self study times).
- Regular personal interviews between nominated leaders and world-class course presenters for guidance and direction.
- Appointment of and relationship with a mentor, who will ensure future development, accountability and success.
